Our Church’s Wider Mission is the name we use to describe the support CUCC gives to our Missouri Mid-South Conference and the United Church of Christ national ministries, and UCC-related institutions. Congregations, like CUCC, are central to the ability of The United Church of Christ to do mission in local communities, within the United States and internationally. As a congregation works in its own community, it is a representative of the entire denomination and embodies the UCC in that place. And when a congregation determines its giving to Our Church’s Wider Mission, there is a direct impact on levels of funding for the Conference and national ministries. Every local congregation has a responsibility to be aware of opportunities for local mission and to be knowledgeable about the work underway by its own Conference and by the national ministries.

We also participate with other Columbia based households of faith in supporting Loaves and Fishes. CUCC volunteers gather every third Monday of the month to provide an evening meal for homeless and hungry persons in the Columbia, MO region. It is our responsibility to plan, purchase, cook, provide and clean up the Loaves and Fishes facility after the meal is served. Recipients always express deep gratitude. This is a most rewarding experience for adults and youth volunteers.

The Central Missouri Food Bank (CMFB) provides free food to 145 non-profit hunger relief agencies in 33 counties of central and northeast Missouri. These agencies in turn serve people living at or below the poverty level and/or who are at greatest risk of hunger. These people include working poor families, low-income and abused children in special programs, senior citizens, the disabled, the homeless, and victims of domestic violence. According to 2004 census update, there are approximately 100,000 people living at or below the poverty level in our service area. In 2006, our agencies were only able to reach an average of 80,000 of those people each month with food assistance (up from 75,000 per month in 2005).

CUCC volunteers are involved in Columbia’s own Personal Energy Transportation (PET) Project's mission is to provide appropriate mobility for all of God's children in need. We help to manufacture and assemble three-wheeled devices that provide mobility for those in the greatest need and with the least resources in poor or underdeveloped countries. The PET Project is an ecumenical ministry of Jesus Christ, whose disciples said, “In the name of Jesus Christ, arise and walk.” (Acts of the Apostles 3:6)

Participants from CUCC join in the annual Columbia CROP Walk. This event is usually held in October. CROP Walks are conducted nationwide to benefit Church World Service, a benevolent coalition of various protestant denominations. CROP Walk proceeds support Church World Service's various projects to help alleviate world hunger.
